NEWS
October Bank Holiday Weekend
Normally the bank holiday weekend would mark the culmination of the triathlon year for those that had anything left in their legs with people taking on the DCM. This year we had club members organise the local 'Portlaoise City Marathon' where almost 40 people took on one of the race distances of half or full marathon. The event was ran locally within the 5K window of Portlaoise. Well done to each and every one of the participants, support crew and organisers for the event.

Week 41
October 11th. We had a great turn out of club members taking on the challenge of a 70.3 distance race. Swapping the swim leg to a 3KM run around the picturesque grounds of Emo Court was the starting leg for the athletes. A 2 x 45km cycle loop along roads of Laois followed by the last leg of a 21KM run through Emo Park saw everyone get home safe and delighted to have completed all or some of the event. Well done to all and a big thanks to Eimear and all the support crew for organising the event.

A huge well done to Sinead and Dave for driving the club race series in 2020. Despite having to work around two lockdowns the entire race series was ran off successfully. Diversifying to new locations in Castletown and Derryounce was instrumental in completing the entire series. Let the number crunching begin to see who comes out on top for each race series.

Week 14
Coronavirus, social distancing and lock downs have brought some special characteristics out of people in these times where we get the chance to reflect on things as we have some extra time on our hands. None more so than our club member Sharon Roche who penned a lovely poem recently around the day that would normally see Portlaoise and surrounding roads littered with triathletes from the four corners of the country partaking in Tri Laois. Week 10
Plenty of action this past week. Olwin and Gary took on the Naas 10 miler and posted solid times on the day. The test duathlon on Sunday morning had great numbers attending - probably one of the biggest fields ever- and it was also a good day to celebrate the 20x20 movement and international womens Day. The PinS crew are embracing their training plans and this can be shown in the results of the duathlon. Click here to see their progress. Sharon also took off this week up the country to Leitrim and completed her first 5K race. Well done to all

Week 9
Storm Jorge, the third storm to hit the country in as many weeks couldn't dampen the spirits of the Saturday morning runners and Sunday morning cycle groups. It was a welcome return to the road for many. The PIN's crew worked well this week in the pool and at their running and cycling sessions. Click here for their weekly report. Tri Laois has sold out in record time. We are looking forward to seeing almost 400 triathletes race in the first traithlon of 2020 in Early April. In the distant land of Siberia Sinead and her son Tiernan took on the icy challenge of marathon and half marathon respectively. Well done to both of them! |
|
Week 8 Test Duathlon 2 brought out large numbers on Sunday morning to the Heath. It was also the first time our PIN's group introduced themselves to the club and race series events. Click here for a report on PIN's 2020 to date. A little up the road in Naas, Amy, Liz and Gary took on Duathlon 2 in the Naas series events. Amy and Gary came in 3rd in their age categories while Liz was pipped into 4th in a strong age group. |

Week 7
Storm Dennis failed to dampen spirits over the weekend for a good number of our club members taking on races around the country. We had a few members head south to take on the challenge of the Sli Gaeltacht Mhuscrai ULTRA Mountain race, some taking on the half marathon distance while others opted for the longer 77Km Ultra distance across the mountain. Paul Twomey came home in a time of 11 hours 27 minutes for the 77km Ultra. Meanwhile closer to home we had a good number line up for the Flat Out Athy Duathlon. Paul O’Brien had an excellent race coming 5th overall in a time of 1.01.05. Well done to all who togged out over the weekend in less than favourable conditions!

CLUB TEST DUATHLON 1 2020. FEB 1ST
We had a great start to the club series race events on Feb 1st on the Heath as over 25 club members partook in the first test duathlon race event. Conditions were cool with a stiff breeze facing everyone along the bike route. For the people racing the cold conditions quickly disappeared when they got onto the first run leg. A big thanks needs to go to the marshals on the day who stood there in the cold ensuring everyone got around safe.

Dublin City triathlon 2019
A nice crew traveled to Dublin to complete the annual Dublin City Triathlon event. Conditions were good for the swim in the Liffey as people entered the water with a rolling start. The bike course is always a technical route with plenty of twists and turns along the closed loop. A shortened run was a welcome to some in the warming conditions. Well done to all .
